Start A Society
So, you want to start a society?
Starting a society is a great way to become involved on campus and can be a very rewarding experience. The process is very simple. The Students’ Union encourages any interested individuals to start a society and we’re here to help you along the way!
Step 1: You must fill out the Society Ratification Form. It is a very standard form which is used primarily for contact information. This form is available online or can be picked up at the Rosaria Information Desk. A president (or any variation of the name, CEO/Manager/etc) a secretary and a treasurer are the required positions that first must be filled for proper ratification of the society.
Step 2: You must draft a constitution. A constitution is the foundation of what you think your society should be. Please see the example of a mock constitution to view the format that is required. It should be noted that this is only an example, all roles and procedures are up to you to set.
Step 3: You must set up a bank account in your society’s name. The best place to do this at is the Royal Bank on Lacewood Dr. in Clayton Park because this is the bank that the Mount Students’ Union deals with on a daily basis. However, it is up to you to decide. The bank will inform you that you need a letter of proof that you are indeed a society at the Mount, please contact the VP Student Life and he or she will draft a letter for you.
Step 4: Submit these 3 things to the Vice President Student Life.
Step 5: The Vice President Student Life will then review all materials and bring it forth to the Students’ Representative Council for final approval.
That’s it! You’re done! You have registered a society with the Mount Students’ Union!
